For the inaugural season the battery has been designed to produce an output of 200 kw, the equivalent of 270 bhp.

The preliminary calendar of the inaugural edition of the championship has ten rounds where the races will be held on streets at city centres at venues like London, Berlin, Buenos Aires and Los Angeles.

Mumbai is believed to be in the running to host a round from the 2015/2016 edition of the championship.

Yesterday, the championship announced American-based Qualcomm, a digital wireless telecommunications company as its founding technical partner.

Brazilian racing driver Lucas Di Grassi has also performed public demonstrations with a prototype Formula E car.
