Red Bull driver Sergio Perez has secured his place with the team by signing a contract extension that extends his tenure through the 2026 season. This move comes amidst a flurry of driver changes across Formula 1, making Perez's stable position with a top team particularly noteworthy. Since joining Red Bull in 2021, Perez has become a valuable asset. He's not only won races and podiums but also finished second in the 2023 driver's championship, helping Red Bull win the team championship. While he currently sits in fifth place for the 2024 season, Red Bull maintains a strong lead in the constructor standings, highlighting Perez's ongoing contribution to the team's success.
Sergio Perez said: 'I am delighted to be staying here to continue our journey together and contribute to this team’s great history for two more years. Being part of the team is an immense challenge, and one I love.
'We have a great challenge this year and I have full trust in the whole team that the future is bright here and I am excited to be part of it. I want to thank everyone for all the trust they are putting in me, it is a lot and I want to pay it back with excellent results on track, and off track. I think we have a lot of work to do, we have a lot more championships to win together.'

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said: 'Now is an important time to confirm our line-up for 2025 and we are very pleased to continue working together with Checo. Continuity and stability are important for the team and both Checo and Max are a successful and robust partnership, securing our first-ever one-two finish for the team in the championship last year.
'Checo has had a strong start to 2024 with second places in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Japan and then his podium in China. The past few races have been tough, there is convergence on the grid, but we are confident in Checo and look forward to his return to proven form and performance, that we so often see. Last year was a unicorn season and we will need to work hard to retain our titles, but we are assured in our line-up and with the team as a whole, which is imperative in what is shaping up to be a close-fought championship this year.'
F1: Where will Sianz Go?
Carlos Sainz's dream of joining a top team for the 2025 season has hit a roadblock. With Red Bull locking in Sergio Perez and Mercedes set to promote their junior driver, Sainz finds himself without a clear path to a championship contender.
This unexpected turn of events forces him into a difficult choice. One option is Sauber/Audi, a team with a bright future as a factory-backed outfit by the highly successful manufacturer Audi. This move offers Sainz the security of a long-term, lucrative contract with a team on the rise. However, the current Sauber team isn't a top performer, so Sainz might have to sacrifice immediate competitiveness for long-term growth.

The other alternative is Williams, who might dangle a hefty paycheck in front of him. While financially tempting, Williams is a less competitive team than Sauber/Audi. Here, Sainz would be trading financial security for a chance to potentially influence a team on the upswing.
Ultimately, Sainz faces a no-win situation. He has to weigh his desire for immediate success against the potential of being part of a rising force with Sauber/Audi. The gamble of waiting for a top-seat opening hasn't paid off, leaving him with a decision that could significantly impact the trajectory of his F1 career.
