Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes: A Short Glimpse of Journey

The seven-time world champion in the sport, Hamilton, did not begin his career with Mercedes. He left McLaren for Mercedes in 2013 and has since won 6 championships and 82 out of his 103 career victories with them. This season has been rife with rumors about Hamilton's contract status. While he and the head of the Mercedes team, Toto Wolff, were optimistic that he would sign a new contract, there were whispers that Ferrari was interested in acquiring him to win their first championship since 2007. By renewing his contract with Mercedes, the renowned race driver has put an end to all such speculations.

By renewing his alliance with Mercedes, the loyal driver will break Michael Schumacher's record of most seasons spent with a single constructor. By the end of the 2023 season, Hamilton will have spent more than 11 seasons with Mercedes, surpassing the record previously held by Schumacher when he was driving for Ferrari.

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes: Reactions

Industry reports claim that Hamilton's signing the contract is expected to boost Mercedes's competitiveness and increase their prospects of returning to their previous levels of dominance in the sport.

Upon renewing his stay in F1 with Mercedes, Hamilton said “We dream every day of being the best and we have dedicated the past decade together to achieving that goal,” said Hamilton. “Being at the top does not happen overnight or over a short period of time, it takes commitment, hard work, and dedication and it’s been an honour to earn our way into the history books with this incredible team.

He further added “We have never been hungrier to win. We have learned from every success but also every setback. We continue to chase our dreams, we continue to fight no matter the challenge and we will win again.

“I’m grateful to the team who have supported me both on and off the track. Our story isn’t finished, we are determined to achieve more together and we won’t stop until we do,” he concluded.

Mercedes boss Wolff commented: “Continuing with our current driver line-up was a straightforward decision. We have the strongest pairing on the grid and both drivers are playing a crucial role in the team to move us forward. The strength and stability they provide will be key building blocks for our future success.''

His qualities as a pure racing driver are illustrated by his remarkable track record; but over our years together, he has grown to become a pillar and leader of our team.''
