F1: Lewis Hamilton Crashes During Ferrari Test on Day 2 in Barcelona
Lewis Hamilton emerged unscathed as Ferrari’s engineers rushed to repair the car, ensuring teammate Charles Leclerc could complete his scheduled laps.
Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari testing in Barcelona took a setback on his second day when he crashed. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion, who joined Ferrari after the 2024 season, lost control of the 2023 SF-23 and hit the barriers. The crash damaged the car’s suspension and aerodynamic parts, forcing the team to assess the extent of the repairs needed. His new teammate, Charles Leclerc, was also on track, driving the same model, as both drivers worked to familiarise themselves with the car’s handling and performance.
This private test helps Hamilton adjust to Ferrari after 12 years with Mercedes. Due to F1’s strict testing limits, teams can only cover 1000km in older-spec cars—about 215 laps of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Every lap is crucial in helping Hamilton adapt to his new environment before the season begins. The session comes ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 season opener at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne from March 14-16.

F1: The 2025 Ferrari
Lewis Hamilton will debut Ferrari’s 2025 Formula 1 car on February 19, just a day after its official launch in London. Pre-season testing follows in Bahrain from February 26 to 28, giving teams limited time to fine-tune their cars before the season begins. The first official track action of the new F1 season kicks off with the Australian Grand Prix free practice on March 14.
Hamilton’s last major team switch was in 2013 when he moved from McLaren to Mercedes—a decision that led to one of the most dominant eras in F1 history. Now, at 40, he embarks on a fresh challenge with Ferrari, aiming to bring the legendary team back into title contention. His arrival at Maranello has sparked huge excitement among fans and experts alike.

Despite securing two race wins, the 2024 season was Hamilton’s least competitive in the ground-effect era, with qualifying struggles affecting his race performances. Improving his one-lap pace will be crucial for success in 2025. Both Hamilton and Ferrari are determined to challenge for major honours and reclaim their place at the top of Formula 1.
