As F1 moves to Korea this weekend, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton had the edge over the Red Bull pair of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber as free practice got under way today.
Hamilton went round, the 5.615 km Korea International Circuit in Yeongam, in 1m 39.630s which proved quick enough to withstand a very late challenge from F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel. Vettel could only manage to put in a time of 1m 39.667s while Webber posted the third fastest time of 1m 39.816s. Mind you, Vettel holds the lap record, on this track when he set a time of 1:39.605 in 2011.
Webber was followed by Nico Rosberg in 4th ahead of Jenson Button and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso. Grosjean was the quickest of the Lotus’ and he stayed ahead of Finn team mate Kimi Raikkonen. Kimi crashed heavily into the barriers out of the final corner and will have to race against time now to get things sorted before FP2 begins.
Force India’s Adrian Sutil posted a time of 1.41.432s which made him 11th fastest while team mate James Calado had his second Friday morning run for Force India in Paul di Resta’s car and impressed again with 1m 43.008s
FP2 begins in the next 30 minutes and we will keep you posted with the latest developments.
