Defending three-time world champion Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull Racing teammate Mark Webber led a 1-2 for the Austrian team in second practice of the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix at Monza today. With a time of 1:24.453, Vettel lead Webber over former champion Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus F1.
Raikkonen's Lotus F1 teammate Romain Grosjean, Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, Mercedes AMG's Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, Ferrari's Felipe Massa and McLaren's Jenson Button and Sergio Perez rounded out the top ten.
Vettel and Webber showed steady race pace along with the session leading times towards the end of the 90 minute session that came as a warning to the defending constructors champions' rivals.
The latter half of the session also saw off track excursions at the high speed Lesmo and Parabolica corners for Alonso and Raikkonen along with drivers overshooting the first and second chicanes in their attempt to find the right brake set up and downforce levels.
Plumes of carbon brake dust coming out of Adrian Sutil's Force India was proof to the amount of strain put on the brakes on F1 cars at the circuit with the highest average speed on the calendar that also has some of the heaviest braking points.
