McLaren driver Oscar Piastri won his first Formula 1 race at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday, finishing ahead of his teammate Lando Norris. Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton took third place. Piastri led from the start and maintained a comfortable lead until the final pit stop. McLaren's strategy allowed Norris to pass Piastri, but team orders later had Norris return the lead, ensuring Piastri's maiden win and making him the fifth Australian to achieve this. Hamilton's third place marked his 200th career podium. However, the race included a late incident, which saw Max Verstappen collide with Hamilton, causing the Red Bull to go airborne momentarily. Verstappen finished fourth, behind Charles Leclerc, and is under investigation by race stewards.
F1 Hungarian Grand Prix: Race Result
Oscar Piastri dominated much of the Hungarian Grand Prix, leading from the start. However, a strategic undercut by his McLaren teammate, Lando Norris, during pit stops turned the race on its head. Despite clear team orders to let Piastri through, Norris initially resisted, creating a tense and controversial situation. It was in the final few laps that he yielded, gifting Piastri his maiden Grand Prix victory. While the Australian’s win is undoubtedly a highlight, McLaren's handling of the driver battle will undoubtedly face scrutiny.
