With Max Verstappen's victory in the 2023 Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix, Red Bull set a new record with 12 straight race victories. The team from Milton Keynes won their 12th consecutive race, surpassing McLaren's record set in 1988. On Sunday, McLaren had another successful day with Norris finishing second and youngster Oscar Piastri finishing fifth. Lando Norris was just ahead of Sergio Perez, who started ninth on the grid and made a remarkable comeback. From first to fourth, Lewis Hamilton fell behind Oscar Piastri as the Mercedes driver chased behind leader Sergio Perez to the finish. George Russell, who began the race in 18th place, finished ahead of both Ferrari drivers. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, who started in Aston Martins, rounded out the top 10. In the slower AlphaTauri vehicle, recently returning driver Daniel Ricciardo did admirably, moving up three spots from his teammate Yuki Tsunoda to P13.

Red Bull became the first team to win 12 straight races as the championship leader wasn't troubled on his way to a 33-second victory. After Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon crashed out of the race at the first turn due to some pinball action, McLaren benefited from the fifth-place finish of Oscar Piastri and the Second-place finish of Lando Norris to move up to fifth in the Constructors' Championship.

Although Alfa Romeo was fast all weekend, Alex Albon finished 11th and Valtteri Bottas was 12th, therefore neither driver scored any points. Both Bottas and his teammate Zhou Guanyu lost positions at the start due to anti-stall contact, which ultimately led to the crash that destroyed both Alpines at the first turn.

F1 Hungarian Grand Prix: Lando Norris Finish on Podium

F1 Formula 1 Lando Norris Mclaren

After finishing the Hungarian Grand Prix in P2, Lando Norris says that despite criticism early in the F1 season, the Woking squad has "proven people wrong" with their results. The British driver finished second in the Hungarian Grand Prix, his second straight podium finish, after holding off a late charge from Sergio Perez.

Norris had started third, but the tussle between Max Verstappen of Red Bull and Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes at Turn 1 sent him wide. Nevertheless, he got through that, and then he had to defend his place from the Mexican Perez when his partner Oscar Piastri was undercut.

Norris' vehicle had a significant improvement in the Austrian Grand Prix, and then Piastri's car received the package at Silverstone. This marked a turnaround in performance for McLaren.  McLaren came from behind at the Hungarian Grand Prix to challenge for the first row in qualifying and keep the pressure on Max Verstappen all race long, giving Red Bull another team to contend with for the best of the rest.

The McLaren MCL60 had a rough start, but after significant improvements in Australia and again at Silverstone, it was able to easily outpace the competition, which included Ferrari, Mercedes, and Aston Martin. McLaren arrived to testing and Bahrain with a car they knew wouldn't cut it, but while the competition stayed, they painstakingly built a significant upgrade package for the MCL60.
