This weekend's United States Grand Prix will feature a special livery from Haas, the lone American outfit in Formula 1. The VF-23 is being unveiled with a one-off concept for the United States Grand Prix, and Haas will compete with a distinctive livery for this weekend's race at the Circuit of the Americas. For the race, Haas will undergo an extensive makeover. In addition to a new exterior design and driver race suits, the team will also implement a significant upgrade package that will radically alter the way the car is configured. It will add the stars and stripes to the flanks of its VF-23. The squad has also disclosed that it will have a special tagline for the event. It decided on the phrase "we the people," referencing the first line of the US Constitution. The updated livery will also mark the one-year anniversary of the team's title sponsorship deal with Dallas-based financial services provider Moneygram. F1 United States Grand Prix: Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner Comments
After the FIA decided to accept the bid from a prospective new US-based competitor, Andretti, to enter the championship, team principal Guenther Steiner explained that they made the decision to emphasise their American heritage. He commented, “One thing that is different this season, is our look and feel is encapsulated under the tagline ‘We The People’ – the first line of the American Constitution. There’s obviously a lot of talk about American teams right now, but we’re still currently the only American team on the Formula 1 grid. Many have said for years that we haven’t exploited that fact, but I’ve always said that’s because we want to earn credibility within the paddock first. We’ve been through a lot in our short time, but along the way have amassed a very loyal, and growing fanbase, and we want to recognise them. The livery was some nice marketing, but anyone who works with my team knows how passionate they are, and how funny and genuine our fans are. This race is dedicated to them as, we the people, make Haas what it is.”
F1 United States Grand Prix: The New VF-23
Haas released a video offering a glimpse of what their car would look like on the circuit this weekend. The clip has also given fans a first look at the race outfits Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg will wear in Texas. Moreover, "We The People" will be the team's tagline, paying homage to the opening phrase of the country's Constitution while donning a "Stars & Stripes" inspired livery. Although the improvement package added to the VF-23 car for this race is not precisely a "B-Spec" version, it is important and, like several other teams, finds the American team adopting the ground effect approach selected by Red Bull.
Sharing his thoughts on the new livery, Guenther remarked, "The upgrade on the VF-23 is aerodynamic. We changed the concept of the car because what we started with, because of the new regulations last year, we couldn’t make any more gains performance-wise. Creating more downforce and less drag, it just wasn’t there anymore, so we needed to change the concept, which is commonly known as the 'Red Bull concept' or the 'downwash concept'. It is a substantial update, and we’re able to do this within the cost cap because we didn’t have any updates at the beginning of the season because again, going back, we couldn’t find any performance that we could make parts to put on the car.”
F1 United States Grand Prix: Other Special Liveries So Far
Red Bull is the other team sporting a unique livery this weekend. The world champions earlier declared they would incorporate designs created by spectators at each of the three rounds taking place in the United States. The second event, after the Miami Grand Prix in May, will take place in Texas this coming week. Notably, the city of Las Vegas is hosting its inaugural race in November. With three special liveries this season, McLaren appears to be particularly persistent. These include the Triple Crown paint scheme for Monaco and Spain, the Chrome iteration for Silverstone, and the Stealth one for Singapore. Besides these, Williams also sported a fan-selected Gulf livery in Singapore, Japan, and Qatar.
