Formula 1 is preparing for big changes in the 2025 season. New rules aim to boost competition and help young drivers. A key change is the removal of the fastest lap point. This rule, added in 2019, aimed to make the end of races more exciting. The FIA wants to make F1 less predictable and more exciting for fans. So, it has removed the fastest lap point. By removing this extra point, the sport aims to encourage bolder race strategies.
At the recent Singapore Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo came in late for new tires and got the best lap. Though he didn't earn a point for finishing outside the top 10, his move helped Red Bull's Max Verstappen by denying McLaren's Lando Norris the fastest lap. With six races remaining, Norris, who trails Verstappen by 52 points, has secured four fastest lap points this season, compared to Verstappen’s two.
