In preparation for next week's Formula 1 race in Emilia Romagna, Ferrari introduced major upgrades during filming day at Fiorano. Their new design is similar to Red Bull's, aimed at improving airflow. This change includes combining the main intake and bypass duct into a larger inlet for enhanced aerodynamics. The updates feature a new winglet shape and repositioning of the bypass duct's outflow, improving airflow over the car's bodywork. Ferrari also extended the wing mirror stalk to enhance airflow along the sidepod.

Originally, Ferrari intended to incorporate the late-2023 version of the RB19 for their significant 2024 upgrade. If they can successfully replicate and implement this design, it may raise concerns for Red Bull. These upgrades have generated positive press for Ferrari ahead of the Imola GP. Reports suggest these enhancements could yield a performance gain of two to three-tenths of a second. Red Bull will need to watch Ferrari and McLaren closely, as both teams have received upgrades.

F1 Can Ferrari Challenge Red Bull for Race Wins?

Since their victory at the Australian Grand Prix, Ferrari's potential to challenge Red Bull has been on the rise. Despite a couple of underwhelming outings in China and Miami, where they fell short of their lofty aspirations for 2024, the Italian team is considered to be the second-fastest team in the 2024 season. But McLaren's performance in Miami seems to have changed the game.

It was hard for Red Bull to keep up with McLaren's improved MCL38, even Verstappen admitted this after the Miami race. This revelation suggests McLaren, like Ferrari, is primed to challenge the Milton Keynes-based team. The upcoming Imola GP promises an intriguing spectacle, as these two teams seem determined to consistently push Red Bull in a more evenly-matched contest.

Despite the different track characteristics between Miami and Imola, McLaren could play a significant role this weekend. Their recent upgrade package, although tailored for a different track, is expected to be more effective here. With Lando Norris and the McLaren team heading into Imola with heightened confidence, there is optimism surrounding their performance. Hopefully, McLaren and Ferrari will be able to maintain their competitive edge and continue to challenge Red Bull for the rest of the season.
