Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is partnering with IWC Schaffhausen under the Polaris Program to pursue space exploration. Hamilton underwent rigorous astronaut training inspired by missions like Inspiration 4 and Polaris Dawn, experiencing firsthand the physical demands of space travel. To commemorate this journey, he donned a custom IWC race suit, designed to mimic authentic space suits. The suit proudly bears his iconic number 44, symbolizing his "space mission."
for those who are unaware, IWC Schaffhausen is a renowned Swiss luxury watchmaker and was Established in 1868 by American watchmaker and engineer Florentine Ariosto Jones

‘As his record-breaking era with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula OneTM Team now draws to a close, we are excited to give him an opportunity to complete a flight training for astronauts and bring him one step closer to space exploration.'
About the Training
Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton completed intensive flight training in an L-39 Albatros jet. Guided by an experienced instructor, Hamilton executed advanced manoeuvres, including rapid acceleration and deceleration, to simulate the high G-forces of space travel. These manoeuvres pushed Hamilton to endure up to 7.5 Gs, significantly exceeding the forces encountered during typical spacecraft ascent.
A key highlight of the training was the parabolic manoeuvre, which allowed Hamilton to experience moments of zero gravity, replicating the weightlessness astronauts feel in orbit. These exercises underscored the physical demands of space exploration and reinforced Hamilton’s appreciation for the rigorous training astronauts undergo.
