Aston Martin signed legendary Formula 1 designer Adrian Newey as Managing Technical Partner and reportedly a shareholder. Starting in 2025, Newey will lead the design of the team's 2026 car under F1’s new regulations. After leaving Red Bull following the Miami Grand Prix, Newey sparked a bidding war among rival teams. He had planned a break from F1 to finish his RB17 hypercar project but negotiated an early release to join a new team in March 2025. Though Ferrari was a strong contender, Newey chose Aston Martin. Newey's arrival is a major boost for Aston Martin, combining his expertise with Fernando Alonso's driving skills to push the team to the front of the F1 competition.
Lawrence Stroll said: 'This is huge news. Adrian is the best in the world at what he does – he is at the top of his game – and I am incredibly proud that he is joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. It's the biggest story since the Aston Martin name returned to the sport and another demonstration of our ambition to build a Formula One team capable of fighting for world championships.
'As soon as Adrian became available, we knew we had to make it happen. Our initial conversations confirmed that there was a shared desire to collaborate in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.'

Adrian Newey said: 'I am thrilled to be joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. I have been hugely inspired and impressed by the passion and commitment that Lawrence brings to everything he is involved with.
'Lawrence is determined to create a world-beating team. He is the only majority team owner who is actively engaged in the sport. His commitment is demonstrated in the development of the new AMR Technology Campus and wind tunnel at Silverstone, which are not only state of the art but have a layout that creates a great environment to work in.

Newey, who worked with Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, has helped win 12 drivers' and 13 constructors' titles, making him one of the best designers in F1 history. Aston Martin currently ranks fifth in the constructors' championship, but their performance has dipped since last season.
Newey won't influence the 2025 car, but he'll lead the design team for the 2026 regulations. Aston Martin's 2026 partnership with Honda will also strengthen their position as a works team.
