Red Bull Racing's Mark Webber took pole position for the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix ahead of teammate and newly crowned four-time F1 champion Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg of Mercedes AMG F1.

The final segment of qualifying saw a showdown between F1 constructors' champions Red Bull Racing and Mercedes before Rosberg's teammate Lewis Hamilton spun in the final moments of the session.

The resulting yellow flags seemingly thwarted the efforts of Romain Grosjean of Lotus F1 to get into the top three. The Frenchman who charged from 17th on the grid at the Indian GP to 3rd, qualified seventh behind Lotus F1 teammate Kimi Raikkonen who was fifth.

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso was the biggest casualty of the second segment of qualifying as the former two-time F1 champion failed to make it to the top-ten shootout for the first time this season.

Alonso was outqualified by teammate Felipe Massa who was eighth ahead of McLaren's Sergio Perez and Scuderia Toro Rosso's Daniel Ricciardo.

The remaining runners in the top ten were fourth places Hamilton and Nico Hulkenberg of Sauber F1 who was sixth fastest.
