Jehan Daruvala has claimed a double podium in the fifth round of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup.
Indian racing driver and Force India protégé, Jehan Daruvala has scored a double podium during the fifth round of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup which was held in Assen, Netherlands.
Jehan finished third in both Race 1 & 2 and stands fourth in the driver’s championship with 166 points. Team-mate Lando Norris currently leads the championship with 211 points after five rounds of the series.
Norris took a dominant victory in Race 1 to take his fifth win of the season. Jehan dropped down two places to fourth heading into turn 1 losing out to Dorian Boccolacci and Max Defourny. Boccolacci finished second, over four seconds adrift from the Norris. Jehan managed to get ahead of Defourny to claim third, while Defourny dropped down to finish fifth in the race.
In Race 2, Norris again got off to a great start going into turn 1, while Jehan held on to his second place. Defourny, who started from fifth, got a bolt of a start to slot himself into third behind in the Indian driver. Defourny seemed to have more pace than Daruvala and easily found his way around him after a few laps.
Defourny then began to close in a four second gap on Norris. In a matter of a few laps, Defourny was all over the gearbox of Norris’s car. On the penultimate lap, Defourney found his way around to take the lead in the final chicane. Defourny kept his lead till the end to take a fantastic win, with Norris finishing second.
Jehan finished third after fending off Boccolacci, after a fierce battle with a gap of a mere 0.293 seconds separating the two.
