CS Santosh endured a torrid day during stage four of the 2016 Dakar rally, finishing 127th out of the 132 starters. It is unclear as of now whether he encountered any problems during the 629 km marathon stage.
After hitting a river crossing during the prologue, Santosh started a recovery ride when the rally proper began on Tuesday, moving up to 79th in the standings once all penalties were settled.
However, today’s stage marked a new low for the Indian, as he could only finish in 127th place. This result drops him sharply to 116th in the overall standings.
Santosh never clocked a top-100 time between any two waypoints, suggesting that if there was a mechanical problem, if was there from the very beginning.
The fact that no external assistance is allowed during marathon stages would have only compounded the matter.
The Dakar rally continues tomorrow with competitors entering Bolivia for the fifth stage.
