Formula E participant for Mahindra Racing, Karun Chandhok, announced today that he will return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans sportscar endurance racing event that he has competed in since the 2012 edition of the event where he became the first Indian driver to finish the fabled event. Chandhok will compete in the LMP2 category with Murphy Prototypes, the racing team with which he has been associated since 2013.
Chandhok will share a Nissan-powered Oreca 03R with Nathaniel Berthron and Mark Patterson with the hope of making it to the podium in the LMP2 class.
Chandhok's history of competing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans includes a sixth place overall finish in 2012 when he competed in the LMP1 category with JRM and a 12th place overall (and 6th in class) finish when he switched to the LMP2 class with Murphy Prototypes.
Last year's event ended after just 73 laps, the winning Audi team managed 379 laps of the 13.629 km circuit.
The 24 hour sportscar race is scheduled to be held from 13 to 14 June this year, which comes just a week after the Moscow round of the FIA Formula E Championship and two weeks before the all-electric championship's season ending double-header in London.
