Aravind KP is all set to make his Dakar debut in 2017 with TVS-Sherco team. After CS Santosh, Aravind will become the second Indian rider to participate in the grueling and unarguably the toughest cross-country rally in the world. The 2017 Dakar Rally will be held between January 2 – 14, crossing three countries – Paraguay, Argentina and Bolivia – covering a total distance in excess of 9,000 kilometres.
Aravind has been part of TVS racing for nearly a decade. He started racing in 2005 and joined TVS in 2006. Since then, Aravind has bagged 15 national championships in dirt track, rallies and motocross. He is also the first Indian to win an overseas motocross championship (Sri Lanka in 2011). In 2015, Aravind won the Raid de Himalaya in extreme bike category. This year he finished second in the Desert Storm while CS Santosh won the rally.
Commenting on the occasion, Aravind said that in the coming months he will be undertaking special training programme for the Dakar rally. The main focus will be to work on navigation skills, he says. Aravind will also be taking part in Rally of Morocco in October this year so as to prepare himself for the main event.
TVS became the first Indian factory team to participate in Dakar Rally when it tied up with France’s Sherco Motorcycles in 2015. TVS acts as a technical and financial partner to Sherco Racing team in the Dakar Rally. Aravind will team-up with Juan Pedrero in the 2017 Dakar Rally while a third TVS-Sherco rider from Europe will be announced in the coming time.
