Aditya Patel will compete in Audi R8 LMS Cup this season that features two sprint races where a mix of professional and ‘gentleman’ drivers compete against each other in their own cars.
The Chennai-born driver won the National Karting Championship in 2001 and since then has compete in a string of single-seater and sports/saloon car series in Asia and Europe. However, more recently, he has concentrated his efforts on the latter with backing from German luxury car maker Audi.
"I'm really happy to be a part of the R8 LMS Cup this year,’’ an elated Aditya Patel was quoted after the announcement. “The championship has been growing steadily and now we see many Asian nations backing top drivers from their respective countries to participate in this series. It's great to have support from Audi Sport as well as Audi China to be a part of this series.”
“I‘'m working together with Audi to find more sponsors this year to be able to do many more races including the 24 hours of Nurburgring and the 24 hours of Spa," he added.
The R8 LMS Cup is based in China with races held across a total of six Asian tracks including FIA Grade 1 facilities in Sepang(Malaysia), Fuji(Japan) and Shanghai(China).
Patel joins the series on the back of a strong debut season in International GT Open where he bagged home a victory in Silverstone, among four other podium finishes. He will be competing against the likes of former F1 driver and last year’s champion Alex Yoong and Formula E racer Ho-Pin Tung.
