With all the chatter relating to the 2015 MotoGP season dominated by Valentino Rossi, Marc Marquez and even Ducati; a former double world champion may have been feeling a little left out. At the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez, however, Jorge Lorenzo made sure that people take him into consideration when talking about this year's title battle.
Finishing 5.576 seconds ahead of Honda's defending world champion Marquez and 11.586 ahead of Yamaha teammate Rossi, Lorenzo definitely made people sit and pay attention, even if the 27-lap race was nowhere near as interesting as the previous round in Argentina.
Marquez's ride to second place despite an injury to his left hand was in sharp contrast to the act of desperation that made him lose out to Rossi in Argentina, and kept him in the hunt for the title despite both Rossi and Lorenzo being classified higher than him.
Rossi's 200th motorcycle grand prix racing podium (164th in the MotoGP class) ensured that his points tally of 82 points after the first four rounds keeps him 20 points clear of Ducati's Andrea Iannone. Although Iannone is now under threat from Lorenzo who is just five points behind, should he continue riding in the same manner that he did in Jerez.
Lorenzo's win at Jerez was his fifth across all three classes since his motorcycle grand prix racing debut in 2002.
Britain's Cal Crutchlow was the highest placed 'satellite' rider on board his LCR Honda, finishing nearly four seconds of Pol Espargaro from the Tech 3 Yamaha satellite squad.
