Almost always during my long-term testing of any car, it would inevitably go on an impromptu weekend getaway. In the month that went by, that inescapable weekend happened courtesy a family that sees long weekends as an opportunity to get things done. It just so happened that our work involved a round trip of almost 250km. The situation was ripe to take the Fronx out from the concrete jungle which it had traversed crawling and letting it stretch its legs on the highway where, I’m happy to report, the Fronx continued to be a charm.
The highway involved some fantastic stretches of perfectly laid tarmac that would surprisingly turn into construction zones proudly adorning randomly laid out cones to divert traffic, as embellishments. The usual highway surprises, then, I would say. Our mixed road conditions - even on highways - mean you get to know the car’s chassis and suspension setup well as it is used through a broad spectrum of conditions.
The Fronx felt sure-footed and would induce enough confidence to make you want to drive faster on the highway. While the tyre noise is a bit more than what I would have wanted, there’s nothing else to complain about. Road undulations are dealt with ease and passenger comfort is high no matter if you are seated at the front of the car, or at the back. Sure, it is no sedan, but the overall experience is such that it won’t be something you think about while driving. As a result, once you do give in to the temptation of going ever so slightly faster, the annoying beeps is all that is bothersome. And that says a lot about the Fronx.
