Maruti Suzuki Fronx Long Term Review, June 2024 Report
Admittedly, it’s not an all-out quest for performance but a clear departure from what the company does best. It may have been a sales dud, but I am so glad that there is a Maruti Suzuki that is fun to drive.
The new Maruti Suzuki Swift was arguably one of the most important car launches of this year in India. Now, I can’t help but draw parallels between it and my trusty long-term test car – the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. What’s similar between the two? Well, apart from the steering wheel, instrument console, and HVAC controls, pretty much nothing. And that’s exactly what I want to talk about. Stay with me.
The Swift marks the beginning of a new chapter for Maruti Suzuki with the introduction of the new three-cylinder Z Series engine. Maruti Suzuki has reduced the engine cylinder count (the Swift has always had a four-cylinder engine) because this new engine is smaller and capable of accommodating hybridisation in the future. It is also set to power most of the new cars that Maruti is going to launch in the future. What’s the reason behind all of this? In one word – mileage!
Maruti Suzuki cars have always been known for efficiency; it’s expected of them, and the new Swift paves the way for the next chapter of efficient cars from Maruti Suzuki. Past and future aside, even today, every single car they sell in India is tuned for efficiency, except one. Well, you guessed it – the Fronx. Admittedly, it’s not an all-out quest for performance but a clear departure from what the company does best. It may have been a sales dud, but I am so glad that there is a Maruti Suzuki that is fun to drive. As I’ve highlighted in my previous reports, this distinctive quality makes the Fronx stand out from the rest. I simply love it!
