Well, the day has finally come. It is time to say goodbye to the Hyundai Verna. Over the past few months, the Hyundai Verna has managed to carve a special place for itself. It’s built a connection, mostly of love and it was rather unexpected. You see, most of the new cars that get launched in the Indian market these days are some variation of what you would call an SUV - they come in different shapes and sizes. But when it comes to the sedan segment, there’s not been a lot of action. It is only this handful of cars – like the Virtus-Slavia siblings, the City and the Verna that are holding the fort for sedans, and, the Verna manages to strike the perfect balance between what all other cars offer.
Over the past few months, you have seen my reports talking about the positives and negatives of the new Verna. But as a whole, and especially compared to its rivals, the Verna is a great value for money car. Let me explain in brief. The Virtus-Slavia twins are meant for those who want performance and driving experience, the Honda City is for those who like things old-school and the Ciaz, well, that just feels left behind in this race. The Hyundai Verna, on the other hand, has managed to deliver performance, driver engagement and driving experience, if not better, than at least at par with the Virtus-Slavia siblings. It’s become more practical with the new generation, that even a typical Honda buyer will find pleasing and it simply outshines the Ciaz. All in all, the Verna is the best bet you have in this segment, as long as you can overcome its looks. And trust me, you will. I know I did after all these months.
