Last month, I conveniently took the custody of our long-term Figo Aspire from Rahul as he was traveling. And there was a good reason, or rather two, behind that. As much as I love commuting on a motorcycle, weathering the chilly Delhi air these days requires you to be a bit too ballsy. So, I couldn’t really turn down the temptation of driving around in the cosy confines of a car when it was available. And, secondly, I had an outstation marriage to attend, which meant I needed a spacious car to ferry my folks to and back from the ceremony.

Logbook

I’ve always loved the diesel Aspire’s explosive powertrain. Suffice to say that it didn’t disappoint on this occasion as my highway jaunt went like a breeze – even with 4 passengers and their luggage on-board. In addition to that, what really impressed me about the Figo Aspire is its impeccable ride quality. Those puny wheels with high-profile rubber may not to be an enthusiast’s liking, but that’s what works the best on our country’s roads, trust me. As for the stuff I don’t like, the gearbox feels a little vague and doesn’t slot in properly sometimes – especially when you’re going up from 2nd to 3rd. Also, the illumination from the headlamps isn’t great for highway driving.

For our next month’s report, we’ll be taking the car for a quick service so as to give you an actual idea of the Aspire’s ownership costs - which Ford claims are among the lowest in the segment. Let’s see if that’s really the case.
