The Hyundai Verna has been doing a lot of things right and has been a car that I have thoroughly enjoyed over the past few months. But if we, for a moment, keep aside how the car is to drive and is to live with, the thing that is left and stands out is how the Verna has been a constant topic of discussion among car enthusiasts. It made all the right waves when it broke cover, however, the reception of the car ranged from people either having a strong affection for its design or a rather strong loath to the Korean automaker’s attempt at making their sedan futuristic.
Arguably, while the Hyundai Verna does a lot of things right, one of the questions left unanswered up until now was its crash test safety rating. It was also a good opportunity for the team to take some points away from the Verna in its comparison against the Honda City and the Volkswagen Virtus as the safety rating had not come out, yet. Now, global safety watchdog Global NCAP has put the Verna to the test and has given it a full five out of five stars as crash test safety rating – both for adult protection as well as for child protection. While this not only boosts the promise that Verna brings to the table, but it also puts the Hyundai sedan amongst the safest cars that you can buy in India.
Sure, the Volkswagen Virtus and the Skoda Slavia twins have already been seated at the coveted 5-star throne for quite some time now, but remember, the Verna defeated the Virtus and the City in our comparison test without the 5-star rating feather being added to its cap. And now that the question of safety has been answered, the Verna is my absolute favourite sedan in the segment for one more reason.
