Samsung’s battery technology has been identified as the primary cause behind a major global recall involving vehicles from leading brands such as Jeep, Audi, and Ford. The recall impacts more than 1.8 lakh cars due to a potential fire hazard linked to Samsung's high-voltage battery packs. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has stated that the problem arises from possible damage to the battery pack's separator, which, when interacting with other cells, could result in a fire risk. Samsung Battery Recall: Stellantis Takes Biggest Hit

With 1.55 lakh units affected, Stellantis vehicles make up the largest portion of the recall, including the 2020-2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and the 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, both of which are plug-in hybrids.

Samsung Battery Recall: Ford and Audi

Ford's recall impacts the 2020-2024 Escape and the 2021-2024 Lincoln Corsair. Investigations revealed that the separator layer in the high-voltage battery cells may be at risk during production, raising the chances of overheating and fire. Audi's recall encompasses its 2022 A7 and 2022-2023 Q5 models. While the primary cause remains under investigation, Volkswagen and Samsung have indicated that thermal overload is a potential factor and could lead to smoke or fire.

Samsung Battery Recall: Other Details

Samsung has yet to find a permanent fix for the battery issue. Ford vehicles are currently programmed to display a ‘Stop Safely Now’ message when a battery issue is detected. However, Audi and Stellantis models do not have this warning feature.
