The Sahara Force India Formula 1 team were the first team on this year's F1 grid to reveal their 2014 challenger, albeit through a 'teaser' photograph featuring the VJM07 from its side.
F1 cars in 2014 are expected to be dramatically different in appearance and under the skin due to dramatically different technical regulations that dictate the engine formula as well as the bodywork of the cars.
Powering the VJM07 will be a Mercedes-Benz 1.6 litre, turbocharged, V-6 engine that will be mated to an energy recovery system (ERS) that will harvest energy lost both through braking as well as heat from the engine.
The new regulations are part of one of the biggest rules revamps in F1's modern era and due to the radically different engine regulations, reliability is expected to play a big role in the 2014 championship.
“It’s been a busy winter for us on the technical and commercial front,” said Sahara Force India F1 team principal Vijay Mallya. “When I founded the team my first ambition was to launch the first Indian team on the grid, but the next stage in our evolution is to develop a global brand. I think that ambition is reflected in the partners we are working with and our world class driver line-up. It certainly feels as though there is the potential for 2014 to be our strongest season yet.”
Returning to the team after spending a season with Sauber F1 is German star Nico Hulkenberg who will partner Mexico's Sergio Perez while Scotsman Paul di Resta will return to DTM while continuing to maintain his ties with the Mercedes AMG F1 team, who are technical partners with Sahara Force India F1 team.
