Sebastian Vettel threw aside the sentimentality of Kimi Raikkonen fans and focused fully on capitalizing on Lewis Hamilton's poor starting position to win the Monaco Grand Prix. It was Vettel's 45th win of his F1 career and the first for Ferrari at Monaco since 2001, when Michael Schumacher won.

The win saw Vettel open a 25 point lead over Mercedes AMG F1's Lewis Hamilton who finished seventh after starting 13th.

Kimi Raikkonen was unable to convert his pole position to a win and was reeled in by Vettel prior to their solitary stops and then beaten through strategy by the German who went far longer than the Finn. Raikkonen did, however, finish second to give Ferrari a big boost in the constructors' championship as Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas was beaten to third place by Red Bull-Tag Heuer (Renault), and could only manage fourth.

Max Verstappen chased Bottas to the finish line in fifth place with Carlos Sainz of Toro Rosso-Renault in sixth place.

Romain Grosjean of Haas-Ferrari finished eighth after starting from that position. Felipe Massa of Williams-Mercedes took a fine ninth place while Renault's Kevin Magnussen took tenth place, the final points scoring place, for Renault.

Ferrari are now 17 points ahead of Mercedes in the constructors' championship with 14 races left in the season.

The season will resume after a two week break with the Canadian Grand Prix at Montreal on the June 9-11 weekend.
