The 2016 Formula 1 will begin on April 3 with the Australian Grand Prix, as opposed to the usual mid-March date. The race is also expected to start earlier, given clocks are pushed back one hour after the end of daylight saving regime. There has, as yet, not been an official statement regarding the change to the F1 calendar from either Formula One Management or the International Automobile Federation (FIA).

A statement regarding the April 3 was posted on the Australian GP's official website confirmed that the 2016 season would be condensed as it would still finish in November.

Any major breaks between two races is likely to be reduced while also retaining fans' interest. Teams are likely to save money in travelling expenses due to not returning to their European bases as much between races.

In 2006, when the Australian GP was pushed to April to avoid a clash with the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Bahrain filled in its shoes and the season stuck to its usual March start date.

This instance of a move to April, however, is a more deliberate which will also increase the gap between the end of this year's season on November 29 and the start of the 2016 F1 calendar. A move that team personnel and drivers are likely to be grateful for.

It remains to be seen whether India will make it to the 2016 calendar, the provisional version of which is expected to be made available in the next few months. The same will go through the FIA for the purpose of ratification.
