Motorcycle intercom systems might initially seem counterintuitive, but they are not, especially in today’s world wherein being connected is one of the most important aspects of our working lives. Now, if you are a daily commuter, chances are that you must have felt the need to have a line of communication inside the helmet. Now, finding an intercom system that seamlessly integrates into your helmet and offers real convenience can be difficult. Enter the Midland BT Mini Intercom system, which offers you precisely what it promises.
At ₹7,500, the Midland BT Mini may seem a bit exorbitant, but it offers enough to justify its asking price. Unlike many intercom systems, which can be removed from the helmet, the Midland BT Mini is detachable. It comes with a base plate that adheres to the helmet, with the device mounted on top. Figuring out the wiring for the speakers and the microphone is pretty straightforward, although figuring out the optimal route for the wires inside twhe helmet may take a few attempts. I must admit that initially, I was sceptical about its appearance on the helmet. However, once set up, the BT Mini looks sleek, without oddly protruding from the side of the helmet.

The clarity of the mic is remarkably impressive, so much so that it makes the call quality over the cellular network feel like you are sitting at home, even while riding in the city at speeds exceeding 50 km/h. While I don’t really listen to music inside the helmet, I tried it for the sake of this review and found the audio clarity to be decent.
The device has three buttons, which are used separately and in conjunction with each other for various functions. Now, the combinations of these buttons may take a while to master, but once done, the operation becomes quite simple. What really surprised me was that a single charge lasts for a really long time – I charged it just once after unboxing it, and (at the time of writing this review) it still hasn’t run out of charge. I took it on a trip to Thailand and even used it to record audio for a vlog. Despite all this, the battery is still at 80 per cent!

However, it does have a notable flaw. While everything about the BT Mini is easy and straightforward, pairing it with its app is pretty difficult, or perhaps impossible – I, for one, have not been able to do it until now. This limitation means that you lose the ability to connect to Intercom systems from other brands. Despite this drawback, the Midland BT Mini has become an indispensable part of my riding gear.
