"My name is Max. My world is reduced to a single instinct: Survive. As the world fell, it was hard to know who was crazier: Me... or everyone else." Now if that line doesn't get your attention, then nothing will. This quote from Mad Max: Fury Road is simply awesome and for Mad Max fans, like yours truly, it definitely gives us goosebumps. The Mad Max franchise is one of the most bizarre series -- an ex-cop, whose family was killed by a biker gang, who now just wants to help people settle in post-apocalyptic desert world. The first movie, Mad Max, broke box office record in 1979 and held the Guinness record for most profitable film for decades. In 1981, the second film Mad Max 2, The Road Warrior, was well received, but Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome in 1985 didn't catch anyone's fancy and flopped. Well, Max is back after a gap of 30 years, the protagonist now being played by Tom Hardy, and with him return the heavily modified cars from hell. We take a closer look at the 10 modified cars used in Mad Max: Fury Road, which will hit the theaters on May 15.
1. Interceptor
There can't be a Mad Max without the 1974 Ford XB Falcon. This is Max's car and this muscle car has a Weiand blower peering out from the bonnet. With a V8 engine under the hood and 300bhp to play around it with, this certainly looks like a must have car for all bad boys. The rusted look with battered tyres add character to the Interceptor.
2. The Gigahorse
This is what it looks like when two 1959 Cadillac Coupe De Villes are split wide open and mounted on each other and then attached to a monster-truck chassis. Insanity does not stop here as the Gigahorse is connected to two supercharged V8s, which is mated by a handmade customised gearbox. It is armed with a giant harpoon and a flamethrower, in case you face some dangerous characters on the road.
3. The Nux car
This is a ’34 Chevrolet coupe hot rod that features a turbocharged V8, which has an appetite for nitrous oxide. This is one quirky 5-window Deuce Coupe, which has the exhaust system running across the doors. Therefore, the only way to enter is from the roof.
4. The War Rig
This monstrous vehicle is a 6-wheel drive Tatra trailer that gets twin V8s beasts. This is Imperator Furiosa's trailer, portrayed by Charlize Theron, who is trying to flee from Wasteland with a group of people. Just in case one is not scared of its huge size, there are skulls stuck on to the front grille.
5. FDK
This is a supercharged V8 Volkswagen Beetle. This silver finish FDK has a double-barreled flamethrower and amplifies loud engine noise thanks to the triple exhaust pipes.
6. Cranky Frank
The radically customised rat rod Holden 50-2106 has a 4-intake supercharged V8. The bonnet is removed to unveil the massive big block engine.
7. The Peacemaker
The Chrysler Valiant Charger flexes raw Australian muscle. Though in Fury Road the Charger is based on a U.S.-made Ripsaw light-tank chassis, it is powered by a water-cooled Merlin V8. As the movie is shot on the desert, a Challenger with tank tracks makes sense as it becomes a more capable assault machine, which can easily be manoeuvred.
8. The Ploughboy
A jacked up 1964 Eh Wagon from Holden is based on an off-road body frame. It is rigged with harpoon and hydraulic driven plough to hook and drag its victims. It may be a station wagon but it has a V8 heart of a muscle car.
9. Buick
With an extended rear diff and double rear wheels, the Buick is personal guard to the Gigahourse. This 1947 Buick has an anti-aircraft machine gun placed on the roof and provides cover fire.
10. Mack
This big tow truck from the Mack R-series sweeps for precious salvage or spoils of war. This recovery vehicle first made its debut in The Road Warrior and continues to trail behind the action and scavenge the battlefield.
