The upcoming CLA Electric will lock horns with models like the Volvo C40 Recharge, the BYD Seal, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Mercedes-Benz India has listed the CLA Electric on its website, indicating an upcoming launch, though the date isn't confirmed as of now. Previewed as a concept in September 2023, the model uses the MMA platform. Globally, there are two variants, but India is expected to get one, priced around Rs 65 lakh (ex-showroom). The CLA Electric will compete with models like the Volvo C40 Recharge, the BYD Seal, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and also serve as an electric option against ICE sedans like the Audi A4 and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe.
The CLA EV exudes elegance. Its front fascia has a sleek, closed grille adorned with miniature illuminated Mercedes-Benz emblems, while the iconic central star glows prominently. Other standout elements include connected LED headlights, flush door handles, bold body sculpting, and distinctive star-pattern LED taillights. The car rides on aerodynamic 18-inch alloy wheels and has a sweeping coupe-style roofline that adds to the sporty aesthetic.

Inside, there's a big screen across the dashboard (MBUX Superscreen) with the newest Mercedes software. Recycled Nappa leather in silver and crystal white covers the seats, and soft blue and violet ambient lighting enhances the atmosphere. Other features include multi-zone climate control, a wireless charging pad, and a panoramic glass roof.
The latest iteration is around 35mm longer, 25mm wider, and 29mm taller than its predecessor. The most notable change is the extended wheelbase, now 2790mm—up by 61 mm—which translates into a roomier cabin, especially in terms of legroom for rear passengers.
The CLA EV boasts an 800-volt battery system, aiming for a WLTP range of up to 750 kilometres. Its ultra-fast charging capability of up to 320 kW allows for a 300 kilometres range boost in just 10 minutes.
