2021 Mercedes Benz S Class CKD Launched

Mercedes-Benz has introduced the locally assembled, S-Class uber-luxury saloon at a starting price tag of ₹1.57 crore, ex-showroom, for the base S 350d variant. The higher S 450 trim has an asking price of ₹1.62 crore. Although the prices are a bit on the steeper side, thanks to local assembly, the S-Class diesel is now cheaper by a substantial ₹60 lakh whereas the petrol trim has become more affordable by ₹55 lakh.

Previously, the S-Class was offered as a fully imported model priced at ₹2.17 crore and ₹2.19 crore for the S 400d and the S 450 4MATIC respectively (ex-showroom, pan-India). The S-Class continues to rival the likes of the BMW 7 Series and the Audi A8 in the Indian market.

On offer is a chauffeur package that reclines the rear seats, brings up the leg rest and allows the movement of the co-driver seat to make more space for the rear passenger.

Already a beautiful car, the latest S-Class gets newly designed 19-inch alloy wheels and a few tweaks made to the front and rear bumpers. Although what it misses now is some equipment compared to the imported Launch Edition models.

The Mercedes-Benz S 450 draws its power from a three-litre, six-cylinder, turbocharged unit producing 366bhp and 500Nm of torque. Some changes have been made under the hood for the diesel variant as this locally assembled S-Class is now powered by a three-litre in-line six-cylinder diesel engine that develops 285bhp and 600Nm of torque instead of the more powerful unit offered with the Launch Edition. Both engines are offered with a 9-speed automatic gearbox and 4MATIC all-wheel drive as standard.
