Mahindra's radical XUV Aero crossover-coupe concept breaks cover at the auto expo.

Mahindra has pulled the wraps off the XUV Aero Coupe concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. The XUV Aero was revealed in a teaser sketch a couple of days ago, although now it has been previewed in full metal at the motor show. Mahindra says it will put the XUV Aero into production based on the response the concept receives from the public. So what do we think of the XUV Aero?

The XUV Aero Coupe is Mahindra’s attempt at making a SUV-based coupe. It’s not an entirely new concept since the likes of the BMW X6, or the more recently launched Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, are already on sale in the country. What Mahindra intends to do with XUV Aero, though, is to bring this lifestyle product/concept closer to the masses.

In flesh, the XUV Aero looks remarkably similar to the XUV5OO, barring the coupe-ish profile and the completely reworked rear-end. However, the designers at Mahindra have managed to refine the overall styling in the coupe concept and it definitely does not look as quirky as the XUV5OO. The headlamps for example feature neat-looking LED lamps with LED daytime running lamps, whereas the honey-comb grille no longer has a jaw-like appearance.

In profile, the XUV Aero looks balanced and quite dynamic. Large alloy wheels, suicide doors, sloping roofline, muscular haunches, sharp creases, horizontally-stacked LED tail-lamps, sporty bumper design with faux diffuser etc.- all come together to give it a bold and aggressive look. Mahindra says the Aero Coupe has been completely designed in-house with some inputs from its recently acquired design firm- Pininfarina.

The Mahindra Aero Coupe is powered by a new mHawk engine developing 210bhp. Mahindra claims the Aero Coupe will be able to clock 0-60km/h in under 6 seconds.

The Mahindra Aero Coupe was unmistakably the main attraction at the manufacturer’s stall in the expo. However, alongside that, the company also unveiled the SsangYong Tivoli and Mahindra-Reva’s new range of electric vehicles.
