The Renault K-ZE makes its India debut at the 2020 Auto Expo in Noida.
We already knew Renault's key focus for the 2020 Auto Expo would be on electric mobility. And staying true to it, the French carmaker has revealed the K-ZE and Zoe hatchback EVs today. Renault is keen on bringing both models to the Indian market, with the Zoe EV planned for a launch this year and the K-ZE sometime within the next two years. For those not aware, the K-ZE is based on the Kwid – a fact evident by similar styling cues on both cars. While the Zoe will be a relatively expensive product for its size (expected price is around ₹14-15 lakh), the K-ZE will be brought as a mass-market EV.
As for the powertrain options, the Renault Zoe is expected to arrive with a single 52kWh setup comprising of a 132bhp / 245Nm – producing electric motor. This powertrain is capable of providing a driving range of around 395kms. The Renault K-ZE, on the other hand, produces 44bhp and 125Nm of torque, with its electric motor powered by a 26.8kWh Li-ion battery pack.
Renault also showcased its Twizy electric quadricycle, which is a purpose-built urban commuter. Petrolheads around the world will better remember it as ex-Top Gear host James May's ride in Episode 1 of Season 22, which saw the Top Gear hosts race across St. Petersburg in Russia. While this single-seater EV isn't coming to India, the car certainly represents Renault's vision of personal electric mobility for the future.
