After a seemingly endless wait, the 2020 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza finally arrives with a petrol powerplant and a much-needed facelift. Expect the launch to take place by the end of this month.
Ever since its launch in 2016, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza was available only as a diesel model, powered by the 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced motor. Now, though, as part of the model's BS-VI update, Maruti Suzuki has presented the 2020 version with the 1.5-litre K15B Smart Hybrid (integrated starter generator + dual battery) petrol motor – the same motor also powers the Ciaz and the Ertiga. Even the power & torque figures remain unchanged at 103bhp & 138Nm. However, instead of carrying over the 5-speed AMT from the earlier diesel model, the Vitara Brezza petrol gets a 4-speed torque converter unit (like the Ciaz). The 5-speed manual gearbox option remains unchanged. This also means the end of the road for the Vitara Brezza BS-IV diesel.
Coming to the cosmetic updates, the facelifted Vitara Brezza gets a revised front fascia, which includes a reprofiled bumper, a new grille, and new dual-barrel LED headlamps (with LED DRLs). Though the car's silhouette has been left untouched, the 2020 Vitara Brezza looks unique from the sides, thanks to a set of new 16-inch dual-tone diamond-cut alloys. The rear profile of the car has also been enhanced by the use of new LED lights and a redone bumper.
Inside, however, the changes are minimal. The key highlight is the addition of the latest 7.0-inch Smartplay Studio infotainment system that offers Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, apart from the standard Bluetooth, iPod, & AUX connectivity. It also comes with vehicle alerts, live traffic navigation, and access to curated online content. Other changes to the interior include new techno-effect interior accents, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, auto-dimming IRVM, and auto-folding ORVMs. The upholstery has now gone all-black.
The Vitara Brezza facelift will also go on sale in three new dual-tone colour combinations: sizzling red (with midnight black roof), torque blue (with midnight black roof), and granite grey (with autumn orange roof).
With the 5-speed manual, the BS-VI Vitara Brezza delivers an ARAI-claimed 17.03km/l, and with the automatic transmission, the figure goes up to 18.76km/l, thanks to the hybrid system. Bookings for the Vitara Brezza are open at Maruti Suzuki ARENA showrooms across the country.
Presenting the new Vitara Brezza at the Auto Expo 2020, Mr Kenichi Ayukawa (Managing Director & CEO - Maruti Suzuki India Limited) said, 'Vitara Brezza created a disruption amongst compact SUVs. Offering a new dual-tone design, class-leading features, outstanding fuel-efficiency, and personalisation options, Vitara Brezza quickly emerged as a segment leader. Keeping up with its strong, urban, and premium appeal, the all-new Vitara Brezza is bolder, sportier, and more powerful. We are confident that all-new Vitara Brezza too will continue the legacy with overwhelming customer response.'
