Great Wall Motors announces its India plans at Auto Expo 2020, alongside the global unveil of Concept H plug-in hybrid SUV. The company will start its India operations in 2021 with two brands – GWM and Haval.
Great Wall Motors (GWM) has officially announced that it will launch its first range of products in India, beginning from 2021. The company will come to the Indian market with two brands – Great Wall Motors and Haval. There’s no clear picture as to what all products will come to our market next year, but given the fact that Haval has its entire range of SUVs on display at the Auto Expo 2020, expect some of these to go on sale here as and when they start sales operations in India.
For those of you who don't already know, Great Wall Motors or GWM is China's largest SUV manufacturer. Its entry to the Indian market, as a result, is one of the main highlights of the Auto Expo this year. Now, of course, there is a lot to talk about this brand, but let's just stick to what really matters to us in India. GWM is going to invest over 7,000 crore rupees in India and has already set up its R&D centre in Bangalore. The company recently acquired General Motor India’s plant at Talegon and will start producing vehicles from there soon.
As for the products, well, at the expo the company showcased the Concept-H plug-in hybrid SUV and Vision 2025 concept. While the latter previews a cutting-edge autonomous vehicle of the future, the former is more likely to enter production soon and should come to India as well. Apart from this, the Haval brand is also expected to bring products like its flagship SUV, the H9, along with the F5 and F7X – all of which are showcased at the expo right now. On the whole, there is definitely a lot of promise in the GWM brand, so let's see how it goes for the brand from here on.
