Mahindra Thar Roxx Long Term Review, January 2025 Report
One fact that I’ve observed with the Roxx is that given the Thar’s reputation, the minute they spot the Roxx in their rearview, they give it a very wide berth.

To say that the Mahindra Thar Roxx has been one of the most anticipated cars of 2024 would be an understatement of epic proportions. Right from the launch of its 3-door version, customers had been demanding a Thar that had increased practicality, as well as space, and Mahindra has responded to the feedback and created the Roxx. Terrible name though, they could have done much better there. Since I hadn’t driven the Thar Roxx extensively, when Mahindra called to say they would like to send one for a few months, I naturally pulled rank and grabbed the SUV. Unfortunately, it has come in a grey shade – Battleship Grey, it’s called – while I was hoping for my favourite colour, the bright red. Nevertheless, one thing good is that we have the diesel automatic 4WD version, which means after a long while of seeing my wallet get drained because of petrol bills, I might end up saving some money.
First impressions, well there are few cars that have had random strangers come up to me with queries or just a request to see as much as has been the case with the Roxx. Twice I’ve had females come up and ask my opinion about the car and to have a look at the space it has. Naturally, it seems that women love the Roxx as much as they love the three-door Thar. And when you drive it, you can understand why. You sit very high up, higher than most cars around you. In fact, as high as the driver’s cabin of some trucks and has a very commanding view of the road ahead. One fact that I’ve observed with the Roxx is that given the Thar’s reputation – or the reputation of some of its drivers, instead – means that most people, the minute they spot the Roxx in their rearview give it a very wide berth.
Naturally, this makes women feel more secure when they’re driving the Thar or the Roxx, and no wonder that a high percent of buyers of both are females. With the Roxx, Mahindra has also worked on the suspension and the NVH, and both of those aspects are amply visible once you start driving it. However, my experience with the Roxx has largely been my daily commute, so I’m yet to test it out on highways, where the test of its suspension and aerodynamics will be much more stringent. Hopefully, once the Bharat Mobility Expo madness is over, I can head on to a long journey and report in more detail on my experience with the Roxx and how it behaves in more challenging conditions.
